The material standard

Why zirconia is the gold standard for permanent implant restorations.

Exceptional strength

Zirconia (zirconium dioxide) is one of the strongest dental ceramics available, with a flexural strength far exceeding conventional porcelain. It withstands the significant forces of biting and chewing without chipping or fracturing — making it uniquely suited to full-arch implant restorations that bear the full load of your bite.

Natural translucency

Modern high-translucency zirconia refracts light in a way that closely mimics natural tooth enamel. The result is a restoration that catches light and shifts in appearance the way real teeth do — not flat or opaque like earlier generations of dental ceramics.

100% metal-free

Zirconia contains no metal. There is no risk of metal corrosion over time, no dark line at the gumline that can appear with older metal-based bridges, and no concern about metal sensitivity or allergy. Patients who have reacted to metal restorations in the past consistently report excellent tolerance of zirconia.

Biocompatible by design

Zirconia has been used in both dental and medical applications — including orthopedic implants — for decades. It is highly biocompatible, meaning gum tissue integrates well around it and the body does not treat it as a foreign material. Long-term gum health around zirconia restorations is excellent.

Stain and odor resistant

The dense, non-porous surface of zirconia resists the absorption of food pigments, coffee, and other staining agents that affect other materials over time. Unlike acrylic provisionals, a final zirconia bridge maintains its color and polished surface for the long term.

Precision fit

Unlike restorations produced from physical impressions and hand-fabricated by a lab, NobelProcera® zirconia bridges are designed digitally from 3D data and milled to micron-level tolerances. The result is an extraordinarily precise fit to the implants and surrounding anatomy — reducing stress on the system and maximizing long-term stability.

NobelProcera® · Nobel Biocare

The world's most precise dental manufacturing platform.

Most Aria full-arch patients receive the NobelProcera® Zirconia Implant Bridge as their final restoration. It is the product of Nobel Biocare's industry-leading CAD/CAM manufacturing process — a system built with one purpose: to produce restorations that perform at the highest level, for the longest time.

Manufactured at Nobel Biocare's Mahwah, NJ facility

Nobel Biocare's manufacturing center in Mahwah, New Jersey is one of the most advanced dental production facilities in the world. It is where your NobelProcera® restoration is milled, sintered, quality-controlled, and shipped to Aria — a process engineered to deliver a level of precision that simply cannot be replicated in a conventional dental lab.

The facility uses precision industrial CAD/CAM milling machines that operate to tolerances measured in microns — producing a restoration geometry that matches your digital design with extraordinary accuracy. After milling, the zirconia is sintered at high temperatures, transforming it to its final hardness and dimensional stability before a thorough quality inspection.

This is not a generic prosthetic. Every NobelProcera® bridge is a custom-engineered solution built around a single patient's anatomy.

Dr. Joe & Nobel Biocare

Dr. Joe Mehranfar is an international lecturer for Nobel Biocare — a designation held by a select group of implant specialists worldwide. His relationship with Nobel Biocare goes beyond using their products: it is a professional collaboration built on shared standards of clinical excellence.

When you receive a NobelProcera® bridge at Aria, it is placed by the same surgeon who teaches other doctors how to use Nobel Biocare's implant system. That continuity of expertise — from the implants in your jaw to the teeth on top — is what sets Aria apart.

The people behind the technology

Your smile is designed by our expert digital lab team — not generated by an algorithm.

The NobelProcera® manufacturing platform is the most advanced CAD/CAM system in dentistry — but the digital design that drives it has to be created by someone who understands what a great smile actually looks like on a human face.

At Aria, that's our expert digital lab team — our in-house CAD/CAM design specialists. They work directly with Dr. Joe and the clinical team at every step. Before your restoration is ever sent to the Nobel Biocare manufacturing facility, every detail of your smile has been shaped, reviewed, and refined digitally — by people in the same building as your surgeon.

That means our lab team considers:

  • The size and position of each tooth relative to your lip line
  • The natural curve and contour of a smile at your age and facial structure
  • The correct shade to complement your skin tone and appearance
  • The gumline profile and tissue response around each implant
  • Your bite alignment and how your upper and lower arches come together

The digital design is reviewed with you before manufacture begins — giving you the opportunity to see your new smile and request refinements. Only when you and the clinical team are satisfied does it go to production.

What in-house design means for you

Shorter timelines. Closer collaboration. Better results.

  • Your designer and your surgeon work in the same building — communication is direct and immediate, not relayed through a third-party lab
  • Design refinements happen in-house before production, not discovered after the bridge arrives
  • Your final zirconia can be delivered in as little as 21 days — a timeline most practices cannot match
  • Because your team designed it, they know exactly how it should fit when it arrives — adjustments are minimal

Understanding your options

Zirconia vs. other restoration materials.

Not all final restorations are created equal. Here is how the NobelProcera® Zirconia Bridge compares to other materials your treatment team may discuss.

PMMA / Acrylic (Provisional)

  • Lower strength — not designed for permanent function
  • Porous surface — stains, absorbs odors over time
  • Intended as a temporary solution while implants heal
  • Appropriate role: fixed provisional during osseointegration

Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM)

  • Metal substructure can show dark line at the gumline over time
  • Porcelain layer can chip away from metal base
  • Metal components — potential corrosion and sensitivity concerns
  • Less natural-looking than all-ceramic options

From 3D scan to finished smile

How your NobelProcera® bridge is created.

Every step from digital design to final delivery happens with the same team — and your CAD/CAM designer is involved from the start.

  1. 3D CT scan & digital impressionsYour anatomy is captured in precise 3D detail — bone volume, implant positions, bite relationship, and facial structure. This data drives every downstream design decision.
  2. In-house CAD/CAM design — expert digital lab teamOur lab team creates the digital design of your restoration — shaping each tooth to your lip line, facial structure, and aesthetic goals. The design is reviewed with Dr. Joe and refined before production begins. You can see your new smile digitally before anything is manufactured.
  3. NobelProcera® manufacturing — Mahwah, NJYour approved design is transmitted to Nobel Biocare's facility, where precision industrial CAD/CAM milling machines produce your bridge from high-grade zirconia. After milling, the restoration is sintered and subjected to rigorous quality inspection.
  4. Delivery, fit & final refinementYour completed NobelProcera® Zirconia Bridge arrives at Aria, is seated and verified by Dr. Joe, and any final adjustments are made in-house. Because your team designed it, fit issues are rare — and the result speaks for itself.

Most practices rely on outside commercial dental labs — meaning your restoration design is interpreted by technicians who have never met you, never seen how you smile, and never worked alongside your surgeon.

At Aria, our expert digital lab team sits down the hall from the surgical suite. Communication with Dr. Joe happens in real time. Changes are made before anything is sent to production. The result is a level of customization and accuracy that outside labs simply cannot deliver.

And because Nobel Biocare ships quickly to Aria partners, your timeline from digital design approval to final placement can be completed in as little as 21 days from implant surgery.

Precision manufacturing. Personal design. A smile built for you.

Common questions

Everything you want to know about zirconia teeth.

Zirconia (zirconium dioxide) is a high-strength dental ceramic that has become the material of choice for permanent implant-supported restorations. It is one of the strongest materials in modern dentistry, highly biocompatible, and can be crafted with a natural tooth-like translucency. Unlike metal-based restorations, zirconia contains no metal, produces no corrosion, and carries no risk of metal sensitivity. Gum tissue integrates beautifully around zirconia — supporting long-term oral health around the restoration.

The NobelProcera® Zirconia Implant Bridge is a full-arch dental prosthetic that replaces an entire row of teeth. It is precision-engineered using Nobel Biocare's CAD/CAM manufacturing platform at their advanced facility in Mahwah, NJ. Each bridge is custom-designed to the patient's exact anatomy, milled from high-grade zirconia using industrial precision milling machines, sintered at high temperatures for maximum strength, and quality-controlled before delivery. Most full-arch implant patients at Aria receive the NobelProcera® Zirconia Bridge as their final restoration — and our expert digital lab team creates the digital design before it is sent to production.

Our expert digital lab team creates a fully digital design of your restoration before it is manufactured. Working directly with Dr. Joe and the clinical team, they shape each tooth to complement your facial structure, lip position, and bite — adjusting size, contour, shade, and gumline profile to achieve a result that looks natural rather than artificial. You can review the digital design before production begins and request refinements. This human expertise in the design phase is what produces a result that patients describe as feeling completely natural — not like teeth that were installed.

Zirconia is one of the most durable materials in modern dentistry. With proper care — regular brushing, flossing around and under the bridge, and professional maintenance appointments — a zirconia bridge can last many years. The NobelProcera® manufacturing process and tight quality standards contribute to the long-term reliability of the restoration. Your Aria team will guide you on care protocols that protect your investment.

Many full-arch implant patients at Aria receive a PMMA (acrylic) provisional bridge immediately after implant surgery — this is the fixed temporary smile worn while implants heal and integrate with the bone. Once your implants have fully integrated, the final NobelProcera® Zirconia Bridge replaces it. Zirconia is significantly stronger, more durable, more stain-resistant, and more aesthetically refined than PMMA, and is designed for long-term, permanent use. Think of the PMMA as the fixed temporary that lets you function beautifully while your permanent smile is being engineered.

Yes. Zirconia is highly biocompatible and has been used in both dental and medical applications — including orthopedic implants — for decades. It contains no metal, does not corrode, and is exceptionally well-tolerated by gum tissue. For patients with metal sensitivities or concerns about metal in their body, zirconia is an excellent and widely recommended alternative.

In many cases, yes. If implants placed at another practice are of a compatible system and are well-integrated, Aria may be able to design and fabricate a NobelProcera® Zirconia Bridge for your existing implants. A consultation and 3D CT scan is the best way to evaluate your specific implant system and determine compatibility. There is no charge for the consultation.
